Sharn, Orc Guardian: GenCon Pre-release hero

Sharn, Orc Guardian: GenCon Pre-release hero

We are currently experiencing a very special time for Judgement, with the game moving from Kickstarter to retail, growing its player base, and now in the wonderful world of releasing new heroes that can have such a positive and massive affect on the meta. The fact we have seen such huge growth in the game recently has enabled us to do something like a special pre-release model at a major convention, in this case GenCon, and we cannot think of a model more fitting than Sharn. She encapsulates so much of what we strive for with Judgement. A strong female hero, a realistic and dynamic pose, and a sculpt that will appeal to gamers and artists alike.

Illustration

Sharn's illustration was masterfully put together by Shane L Cook, who is a pleasure to work with and continually astounds us with awesome concept art for the majority of heroes in the Judgement universe.

We wanted to capture the fact Sharn is always in the thick of the action, taking hits for her allies and revelling in the most dangerous areas of the battlefield. As with many of our sculpts, we also wanted to capture her in the middle of executing her signature plays, leading with her shield (Shield Slam) and following up with her mighty hammer (Hammer Smash).

Sculpt

We would like to introduce a brand new sculptor into the Judgement family. Dave Whitaker has come on board and Sharn was his first assignment. Safe to say that Dave did an amazing job. He has been a natural fit into our process and worked with Shane from the outset from concept, to illustration and finally sculpt, and it shows. We are super excited to have Dave on the team and look forward to working with him on a lot of projects in the coming months and years.

Sharn Sculpt

There is ample evidence Sharn loves bearing the brunt of anything her enemies want to throw at her. Lots of wear and tear on her cloths, and armour, coupled with the odd flesh scar resulting from brutal battles she has partaken in over time. You may notice the one part of Sharn that remains pristine is her hammer, which also looks decidedly dwarf-like! Her hammer is in fact the ancient dwarf artefact "Dream Crusher", a relic she stole earlier in life with the help of her unlikely companion and ally, Rakkir.

One of the main features of Sharn is her parvise shield, and it is a dominant part of her in-game kit, so it was important to make it impressive on the model. Once again Dave killed it. The shield looks amazing.

The defender class is full of awesome heroes that bring something unique to the battlefield, beyond just protecting their allies and contesting objectives. With Sharn, we wanted to capture the effectiveness of a parvise shield, and what better way to do that than by making her mobile hard cover! She can also use her shield offensively with Shield Slam, which is a devastating combat manoeuvre in the right situation. Get Behind Me is also a very characterful active ability which will see Sharn quickly become a favourite among ranged hero allies. Offensively, Hammer Smash is a powerful model displacement ability that is empowered by "Dream Ender", her stolen dwarf artefact. Perhaps her strongest ability, in the right situation, is Beguile which provides a very strong control aspect to Sharn's kit.

GenCon Pre-release and Retail Launch

Sharn will be available for pre-sale at GenCon 2019, which runs from the 1st-4th August. Sharn will then be available via retail on the 1st of September. Individual GenCon purchases will be limited to 5 at a time. Note that while we are doing a decent 1st run of Sharn, he numbers are limited, however if we sell out we will be doing another run early in 2020.

Our GenCon booth is #2861 and Twitch stream partner, and amazing artist, Shoshie, will be painting Sharn, across Friday and Saturday, in the Judgement booth!

Barnascus Sculpt Reveal

Barnascus Sculpt Reveal

One of the highlights of our recent wave 2 Kickstarter campaign was when Shane Barnbrook went huge and pledged $5,000 to "Become a Hero!". It was a real shot in the arm for the campaign and meant Shane was able to collaborate with Judgement's designers, sculptors and illustrators, to create his very own hero. The result of this collaboration was the mighty Barnascus, dwarf pyromaniac! Similar to our wave 1 backer designed heroes, Barnascus introduces something different and pushes the Judgement team to move into new areas that add a lot of variety and colour to the game. Shane was an absolute pleasure to work with and everyone involved in the Barnascus project was absolutely over the moon with the results. For the record the Barnascus illustrator was Shane L Cook and the sculptor was Tom Lishman. Here is Barnascus in all his glory, congratulations Shane, you have been carved into the history books of Judgement! :)

Barnascus, dwarf pyromaniac

The hapless goblin underneath Barnascus' tank is the world famous "Itchy Nads", who makes his first appearance in the Judgement universe, however it won't be his last...

Barnascus, dwarf pyromaniac

Obviously, Barnascus is another hero from our WW1/2 time line and the first to be equipped upon a mechanical device, his own personal tank platform! Barnascus is a grizzled veteran of many battles and revels in the opportunity to fight against mighty heroes from a bygone era on the shadow plan of Between.

Shane's involvement in the creation of Barnascus was not just limited to the sculpt. He was also included in the design of Barnascus' in-game rules, and once again we were able to introduce some cool themes and abilities to represent this mighty dwarf on the battle field.

Barnascus is available as an add-on via our Kickstarter late pledges, and can be added to any existing pledge level.

Barnascus is the final sculpt, to be completed, from our wave 2 range! What an awesome collection of heroes and models we now have, and we are simply so excited about getting them manufactured and onto your table-top! Full steam ahead now!

Wave 2 Launch in 2 days + Zaffen Sculpt Reveal!

Wave 2 Launch in 2 days + Zaffen Sculpt Reveal!

We have put in an enormous amount of work preparing for the wave 2 Kickstarter. Even though we have an abundance of knowledge gained from our 1st one, we raised the bar so much this time around that it pushed us to the limit. The reaction from each and every illustration and sculpt has been amazing, as the team behind the scenes collectively made the decision to exceed all expectations, and do something special this time around.

We are ready to pull the trigger on this, so thought, why wait until the 1st of April? Why indeed? So without further ado, we have decided to launch the wave 2 Kickstarter in just 2 days time

Wave 2 Kickstarter go-live times:

Chicago - Thursday, 22nd @ 8:30am
Sydney - Thursday, 22nd @ 12 midnight
London - Thursday, 22nd @ 1pm
Berlin - Thursday, 22nd @ 2pm

We are pumped for this, and regardless of how well we go with our funding goal, we would like to thank each and every person that has contributed to this Kickstarter. That includes the early Judgement adopters, the players who through their enthusiasm and support have spurred us on in times of doubt. We said from day 1 we are in this for the long haul, that we want to build a thriving world wide Judgement community, and we have not wavered on that one bit. The wave 2 Kickstarter is another important step on that journey. We hope you choose to join us. :)

Zaffen Ironhelm

To celebrate the Kickstarter and further whet your appetite we chose to reveal the Zaffen Ironhelm sculpt to you in all its glory!

Mr Tom Lishman, takes  bow! The man just seems to get better with each sculpt and Zaffen is a beauty. A fantastic interpretation of Shane's illustration, and without doubt the best scenic base of the range.

Bring on wave 2 I say. :)

Haksa Sculpt Revealed

Haksa Sculpt Revealed

Ever since we released Haksa's illustration 6 weeks ago, he has been one of the most highly anticipated sculpts from our wave 2 Kickstarter, and the finished product did not disappoint. Tom Lishman's interpretation of Shane L Cook's illustration is absolutely spot on, and we are rapidly running out of superlatives to describe our amazing range wave 2 sculpts.

In the blog post Gods & Usurpers, we revealed insights into the background of Haksa, who is one of the more interesting players in the unfolding Judgement story. Haksa has remained true to the old gods, resisting the rise in popularity the demi-gods have enjoyed, and most of all he despises the rift the new gods have caused to his people. Kruul, a witchdoctor that has embraced the demi-gods remains Haksa's arch rival, and we have plenty in store for those two in the future.

The sculpt captures Haksa casting his level 1 fate ability Equilibrium, while a healing idol sits before him, protecting his allies. We look forward to revealing 3 more wave 2 sculpts before launching the Kickstarter page in a few weeks, and the Kickstarter proper on the 1st of April.
