Patch Notes #11

Patch Notes #11

Herein lies the eleventh clarification and errata document for Judgement. From the very beginning, we socialised the fact Judgement would be a regularly "patched" game, to stay true to its MOBA origins, and to ensure the game's rules are kept in an optimal state. Our patch schedule is quarterly, with the changes becoming official on the 1st day of the start of the next quarter. Therefore the official date for this patch is the 1st of July 2020.

Remember that all hero, monster, magical artefact and core rules can be downloaded from the Print & Play section of this website or purchased from drivethrucards.com. Both our Android and iOS apps will also be updated to reflect changes from this patch.

If you want to discuss the patch notes or anything at all about Judgement, please join our Discord channel or visit our forums!

Clarifications

Clarifications are provided for rules that are normally played a certain way, however, the rules as written do not necessarily support that. Clarifications can also be quality of life changes that do not necessarily change rules.

Backstab (p32)

With the imminent release of Grael, we will have two models with the Backstab ability, which is normally a trigger to include the rule in the core rule book.

A model with Backstab receives a +1 damage modifier while resolving a basic attack with a Melee weapon against an enemy model which is engaged by a friendly model.

Mark Target (p33)

With the introduction of Cradol, Mark Target is another rule that is possessed by more than one model. So, we are including it in the core rules.

At the start of the game, after deployment, choose an enemy hero model. This model gains +1 dice to their attack dice pool, after all other modifiers, with its Basic Attacks, when targeting that model. This model can spend an action during its activation to move the mark to another enemy hero model. Mark Target remains on the model even when it dies and respawns.

Point Blank (p33)

The Point Blank rule is Judgement's window to the battle-mage archetype. There remains some confusion around what happens when you fire at someone that is engaging you or you are engaging. We wanted to clear that up.

Firing into melee penalties apply as per normal, however, when making a Point Blank attack there is no shooting into combat penalty from being engaged by or engaging the target.

Soulless (p34)

The previous definition of Soulless was ambiguous in certain situations as it always referenced enemy hero models, instead of just models. We have made it more generic to cater for all circumstances.

A model with the soulless ability cannot have Souls bound to it under any circumstances.

When a model with the soulless ability is killed by an enemy model, it does not produce a Soul. Instead, if the enemy model is not suffering the curse condition, the enemy model’s Effigy gains a banked Soul.

When a model with the soulless ability kills an enemy model it does not harvest its Soul. Instead, the nearest eligible friendly hero model, to the model with the soulless ability, gains a Soul bound to it. If a model with the soulless ability kills another soulless model, the Effigy of the model with the soulless ability gains a banked Soul.

Errata

Errata are changes to existing rules or new rules that appear in the rule book for the first time.

Effigy Recall (p15)

There was an interesting conversation online about how in MOBAs, heroes heal to full when they recall back to their base. We like to stay true to our MOBA origins where we can, within the confines of a table-top game, so we experimented with some form of healing as a reward for a successful Effigy Recall. We also felt that Effigy Recall is a great tactical move that promotes dynamic play.

A hero can spend 2 actions to perform an Effigy Recall, which places the hero in base-to-base contact with its own Effigy and heals the model d3+1 health.

Hunter (p23)

The Monster Hunter rule is overly convoluted with monsters behaving differently when they are closest to hero or summoned models. We want to simplify this so have included summoned models in the hunter clause.

During a monster’s activation, it advances its MOV statistic directly towards the nearest hero or summoned model.

Hero & Monster Clarifications

These are a set of clarifications and clean up for hero and monster rules.

Allandir

  • Allandir's card changed to reflect Mark Target being added to the Rulebook.

Dor'gokaan

  • Enhanced Hunter updated to include him using Weakening Gaze when not in melee range of an enemy model.
  • Enhanced Hunter rule cleaned up to be written as it was intended and played. It now mentions enemy models over hero models.
  • Demon Blade clarified so that all its benefits only apply to melee basic attacks.

Demon Blade

  • Clarified that the bonuses only apply for melee attacks.

Inferno

  • Enhanced Hunter rule cleaned up to be written as it was intended and played. It now mentions enemy models over hero models.

Inferno

  • Added the Summoned keyword.

Kogan

  • Buck Shot was using the word Hit erroneously. The wording has been cleaned up to match modern rules.

Saiyin

  • Point Blank description on the 4th card updated.
  • Soul Boost changed to Soul Sear since it had the same name as Sarna's ability.

 Piper

  • His card has been updated to reflect Backstab being added to the Rulebook.

Terra

  • Added the Summoned keyword.

Terra

There is always confusion as to what Terra actually is when she joins a Warband from controlling the Shrine to Eldir. She is now a hero model!

  • Terra is now a hero model when she joins a Warband.

Hero & Monster Errata

These are rules changes, nerfs, buffs and complete reworks of heroes or monsters.

Kvarto

We felt that Kvarto was being out-shone a little in his role compared to other heroes. He also does not play the battle mage role as well as we originally intended. This is a big buff for Kvarto and all the playtesters agree he is a lot more fun and effective now.

  • Immune to Poison and RES 1 moved from his level 2 to level 1
  • Added Point Blank
  • New level 2 ability - Corrupt Soul

Sarna

Bale & Sarna are in a good place, however, their ability to skew RES moves them into a role that both does not suit them and goes against our original design principles. We have switched Sarna's defensive tech into an aggressive one which is more in-line with where we see them.

  • Mystic Aegis changed to Mystic Augment - instead of +1 RES, now gives +1 MEL

Skoll

We wanted to bring Skoll in-line with heroes having similar abilities. Bulwark should be applicable to non-hero models.
  • Bulwark can now be applied to non-hero models.
Skye

The general feeling is that Skye's kit was a little too rigid. His win rate suggests he is in a decent spot, and we agree, however, these changes simply make his kit flow better in a game.

    • Spirit Strike can now heal a friendly model within 2" as well as himself.
    • Globe of Invulnerability is now 1F instead of 1A+1F.

    Viktor

Viktor is a hero we are watching closely. He has proven to be a fine balance between OP and under-powered, and it largely depends on his ability to get his demons to do the hard yards. This change makes his demons a little more useful as they are the defining element of his kit.

    • Viktor can now cast Hex and Banishment through the demon, as well as Necrotic Blast.

    Vujasha

Vujasha is the most impactful monster in the game currently. So much so that we felt the need to introduce restrictions on when she spawns.

    • Vujasha cannot spawn randomly from non-centred random spawn pits at all. She can only spawn on centre ones which are equidistant from each player’s deployment zones.
    • Vujasha will not spawn if there are 2 Vujasha already on a map.

    Cradol

We feel Cradol is in a great place now and ready to call her V1.0. Due to COVID delays, her model is still a while away, however, her rules ready for official release.

    • Change Shadow Wraith so as soon as the manoeuvre is executed, all the mist tokens are removed from the enemy model.
    • Changed Shadow Switch completely so that it now lets her re-arrange mist tokens among models within 6".
    • Added Mark Target.
    • Her card is now V1.0

    Grael

Grael is the third goblin hero to be included in Judgement and he continues the fine tradition of being an annoying little blighter. Grael is also the first new soulgazer in a long time. He has been super fun to design and play-test and we are keen to hear feedback from the community.
